Vision of the Future - Part Three

I am creating a white board video using the program Videoscribe.  I admit that progress is slow going as I try to complete my script or "message" of my video. Balancing full time work, schooling, home renos and family is proving to be quite challenging to me these past few weeks but I know this project will get there.  I am creating an advocacy video for administration and senior school board staff I hopes that "the powers that be" will be the value of TL jobs for student achievement and how much more could be done with a full time TL in a school.

Right now I am researching scholarly articles through the UBC library such as this one and this one as I will likely want to touch on quantitative information - I feel like my audience will be most interested in numbers and stats as far as how having a full time TL benefits student learning. I am finding research to be increbible slow going  - lots of articles I have read are out of date or not Canadian in content or just not quite what I am looking for. I really would like my video to be backed up my good, reliable information.  I am anticipating that my biggest challenge this week will be creating something of value given my limited time frame. It will have to be short and sweet blog post this week as I need to focus my time on actually doing it, rather then just talking about doing it.  Looking forward to having more time to think and reflect on the process next week!

  1. Hi Tamara! I can totally relate to where you're at! It's a very busy time of year with school (report cards!), family and other commitments, and it can feel like there just aren't enough hours in the day! No matter how long or short our blog posts are, I think that simply taking some time to reflect on where we're at with our projects can be so helpful. Looking forward to checking out your Videoscribe next week!

  2. A decent checkin that shows the direction you are heading and discusses some of the challenges you are facing. I am wondering how the technology of your vision is coming along in practicing and playing with the videoscribe tool? You should also review Tracey Coelho's blog post as it is also about advocacy and she has found some excellent research to support the TL role. (https://ateacherindelta.wordpress.com/2015/11/28/the-visioning-process/ ). Overall, this was a decent reflective post, but a little more insight and glimpse behind the curtain of the development process would be valuable.

  3. Hi Tamara,

I really feel for you. I froze a few weeks ago when technology seemed to be failing me, and it was alarming how fast everything in life elbows onto center stage. I wish for you a burst of creative energy and a clear path through the research. In my M.Ed, I spent a lot of time looking for quantitative data on a subject that was not well studied. As I suspect you have already done, I tended to have to limit my searches to peer reviewed articles and enter a current date range to filter out the many unrelated results I would find in the university library catalogue. I also recommend stopping your search for data once you find even two good articles that help paint the picture you want to create with your whiteboard video. It can be intimidating to present to people in the decision making positions, but a few relevant pieces of data, your passion and your vision are all you need!

    Best wishes,
    Andrea
